‘She’s Not Ahead’: Mark Halperin Says Dems ‘Scratching Their Heads’ Over Kamala Staying in D.C. Rather Than Hitting Campaign Trail

"If she loses, there’ll be a lot of second-guessing of all sorts of decisions they made. And one of them will be what has been a light schedule," says journalist.

Newsmax political analyst Mark Halperin said Democrats are questioning Kamala Harris’s decision to stay in Washington, D.C. rather than campaign in swing states in the closing days of the election.

Harris is taking a break from campaigning to participate in pre-taped interviews with Telemundo and NBC News in Washington, D.C., which will air Tuesday evening.

Halperin said Tuesday on “Wake Up America” that Trump is currently leading Harris, raising concerns among Democrats over her campaign strategy.

“Look, if she loses, there’ll be a lot of second-guessing of all sorts of decisions they made. And one of them will be what has been a light schedule. If she thinks she’s ahead — her campaign doesn’t think she’s ahead — but if they thought she was ahead, you could say she’s running out the clock, but she’s not ahead,” Halperin said.

“And so it’s a choice they’re making. I think a lot of it has to do with the amount of preparation time she wants and requires for the interview she’s doing today, for the town hall she has coming up, but there is head-scratching amongst Democrats, two weeks to go, someone who’s fighting for the presidency, and she’s spending the day in Washington.”

“Again, a lot of Democrats also scratching their heads,” he continued. “You’d think it just, you know, jump on the Amtrak and go up to Philadelphia and do something. But the reality is, as Donald Trump proves when he does national events outside of the battleground states, that NBC News interview will get coverage everywhere.”

“And maybe she feels like that’s going to fill in the news cycle. But, like I said, if she loses, people are going to go over her schedule and wonder why she took so many days in Washington,” Halperin added.

Former President Donald Trump blasted Harris Tuesday for ducking out of campaigning to take refuge in Washington, D.C. for the pre-taped interviews which, if they’re anything like her deceptively edited 60 Minutes interview, will labor to make her look as competent as possible.

I was going to hit her really hard on the campaign trail today, but now I don’t have to. She’s got a day off. You have 14 days left for the presidency and she’s taking a day off,” Trump said at a Latino roundtable event in Miami, Florida. “I can’t get over it. Who the hell takes off when you have 14 days left She’s lazy as hell. She’s got that reputation.”

“I don’t want a day off. We have to win,” he said on Monday, adding he campaigned for 32 days straight and won’t take any days off before Election Day.
