An “abandoned migrant child” was rescued while drifting down the Rio Grande in a flotation device, according to reports.
The harrowing incident unfolded in Texas although it is unclear when it took place.
Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin shared footage obtained from an unnamed source showing a soldier from the Texas National Guard apparently trying to save the victim from the border river.
“Security video from a contact shows what appears to be an abandoned migrant child on a flotation device drifting down the Rio Grande in Eagle Pass, TX – alone,” Melugin explained.
“A Texas National Guard soldier can be seen rushing in to try to help, & we are told the child was later rescued.”
In September, Texas reporter Valerie Gonzalez shared photographs of inflatable tubes and children’s clothing ditched on a bank of the Rio Grande.
“I found these child size floatation devices on Saturday in Eagle Pass, a day after the river claimed nine lives,” Gonzalez explained at the time.
“That morning, a national guard told me a small group crossed the Rio Grande, including a child wearing the floating device.”
Drownings and water rescues on the Rio Grande have become regular occurrences during the Biden border crisis.
Border Patrol agents just began placing hundreds of bilingual locator signs along the river as part of the “Rescue Water Placard Initiative” launched in three counties in the Rio Grande Valley.
