President elect Donald Trump has officially announced that Tom Homan, former ICE director, will be appointed as “border czar” under the new administration.

In a post on his social-media platform Truth Social, Trump announced that Homan would be in charge of the nation’s borders and would be responsible for overseeing Trump’s policies of mass deportation.

“I am pleased to announce that the Former ICE Director, and stalwart on Border Control, Tom Homan, will be joining the Trump Administration, in charge of our Nation’s Borders (“The Border Czar”), including, but not limited to, the Southern Border, the Northern Border, all Maritime, and Aviation Security,” Trump posted.

“I’ve known Tom for a long time, and there is nobody better at policing and controlling our Borders. Likewise, Tom Homan will be in charge of all Deportation of Illegal Aliens back to their Country of Origin. Congratulations to Tom. I have no doubt he will do a fantastic, and long awaited for, job.”

It was widely expected that Trump would rehire Homan, who served as acting leader of ICE between 2017 and 2018.

Homan was considered a controversial figure for his no-nonsense approach to immigration and, in particular, for presiding over the so-called “family-separation” policy, which saw illegal immigrant families held apart and removed from the country separately.

Trump has repeatedly expressed his enthusiasm to bring Homan back. In a radio interview during the campaign, the president-elect said, “He’s coming on board.”

Homan has made clear his support for Trump’s immigration plans and promised that they will be unlike anything the country has ever carried out before. In an interview over the summer, he said Trump’s opponents “ain’t seen sh*t yet… Wait until 2025.”

When asked in a recent interview with 60 Minutes whether mass deportation would require family separation, Homan suggested it “needs to be considered absolutely.”

“Their parent absolutely entered the country illegally, had a child knowing he was in the country illegally,” Homan explained. “So he created that crisis.”

Trump has confirmed that he will be moving ahead with his policy of mass deportation and that there will be “no price tag” attached to the scheme.

“We obviously have to make the border strong and powerful and, and we have to—at the same time, we want people to come into our country,” he told NBC.

“And you know, I’m not somebody that says, ‘No, you can’t come in.’ We want people to come in.”

Trump was questioned on the cost of mass deportation. Leftist commentators have repeatedly tried to insist it would be too expensive to deport millions of people.

“It’s not a question of a price tag. It’s not—really, we have no choice,” Trump explained.
