President Donald Trump reported Monday he’s negotiated an agreement with Mexico’s president to deploy Mexican troops to the US-Mexico border to help stop the flow of fentanyl and illegal aliens.

“I just spoke with President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico. It was a very friendly conversation wherein she agreed to immediately supply 10,000 Mexican Soldiers on the Border separating Mexico and the United States,” Trump said in a Truth Social update Monday, adding, “These soldiers will be specifically designated to stop the flow of fentanyl, and illegal migrants into our Country.”

He continued: “We further agreed to immediately pause the anticipated tariffs for a one month period during which we will have negotiations headed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Treasury Scott Bessent, and Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, and high-level Representatives of Mexico. I look forward to participating in those negotiations, with President Sheinbaum, as we attempt to achieve a “deal” between our two Countries.”

Ahead of the negotiation, Trump admitted there could be “pain” amid the ongoing trade wars, but warned America would no longer be the “stupid country” taken advantage of economically any longer.

“THIS WILL BE THE GOLDEN AGE OF AMERICA! WILL THERE BE SOME PAIN? YES, MAYBE (AND MAYBE NOT!)” Trump wrote on Truth Social Sunday morning. “BUT WE WILL MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, AND IT WILL ALL BE WORTH THE PRICE THAT MUST BE PAID.”

“WE ARE A COUNTRY THAT IS NOW BEING RUN WITH COMMON SENSE,” he added. “AND THE RESULTS WILL BE SPECTACULAR!!!”

Trump previewed a few issues he’ll bring up in tariff negotiations with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who he’ll meet with Monday.

Trump has also threatened a 10% levy on Chinese goods over fentanyl flooding into the U.S., prompting outrage from Chinese officials who claim the move “seriously violates” trade rules, with China’s foreign ministry declaring, “Fentanyl is America’s problem.”

Meanwhile, Trump Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum has outlined the Trump tariffs aren’t about a trade dispute, but rather solely focused on stopping the fentanyl problem.

“This isn’t a ‘trade war’ with Canada, or Mexico, or China — this is about fentanyl. We’ve had a mass invasion of our country,” Burgum said Monday. “We’ve been taking mass casualties. We lose almost 300 people a day to overdose deaths… President Trump wants it to end.”
