President Donald Trump on Monday said he’d consider Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) as a potential running mate in a hypothetical 2024 re-election campaign ticket.
Speaking to “Varney & Company,” the president remarked how his own popularity had helped DeSantis in the past, and commented he’s among a list of potential running mates Trump would consider.
“If you were to run for the presidency in 2024, would you consider Ron DeSantis, governor of Florida, as your running mate?” Varney asked Trump.
“Sure I would, but, you know, there are numerous people that are great,” Trump answered. “I would certainly consider Ron.”
“I was at the beginning of Ron, I was the first one to endorse him when he came out as a congressman that a lot of people didn’t know, and my endorsement helped him tremendously, and I know him very well. He’s a great guy. We have other great people. I mean, you look at some of … the Republican people that have done a great job with states, and you don’t see that with the Democrats. I mean, they kept their states closed and locked down, and the schools are closed. It’s just absolutely outrageous how they get away with it.”
Trump espoused similar sentiments during an interview with Fox Business Network‘s Maria Bartiromo last April, saying he considered DeSantis a “friend.”
“A lot of people like that — you know, I’m just saying what I read and what you read — they love that ticket,” Trump told Bartiromo.
Since he was unceremoniously stripped of the presidency, Trump has very seriously been entertaining the prospect of running for a second term.
Just last week, Trump referenced a return to the White House in a statement toward Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg following news his account would be banned for at least two years.
“Next time I’m in the White House there will be no more dinners, at his request, with Mark Zuckerberg and his wife. It will be all business!” Trump stated.
Trump’s expected to hit the campaign trail later this month in support of Republican candidates ahead of next year’s midterms, reports claim.
