President-elect Donald Trump trolled Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday by referring to him as the “Governor” of the “Great State of Canada.”
“It was a pleasure to have dinner the other night with Governor Justin Trudeau of the Great State of Canada,” Trump said. “I look forward to seeing the Governor again soon so that we may continue our in depth talks on Tariffs and Trade, the results of which will be truly spectacular for all!”

Trudeau visited Mar-a-Lago last month to discuss with Trump bilateral relations between Canada and the U.S., where Trump apparently made it known he believes Canada has been profiting off of American subsidies and joked about annexing Canada as compensation.
“We are told that when Trudeau told President-elect Trump that new tariffs would kill the Canadian economy, Trump joked to him that if Canada can’t survive without ripping off the U.S. to the tune of $100 billion a year, then maybe Canada should become the 51st state and Trudeau could become its governor,” Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy reported.
Shortly after the meeting Trump shared an AI-generated image on Truth Social showing him taking in the view of Canada’s mountainous terrain alongside a Canadian flag.
“We’re subsidizing Canada to the tune over $100 billion a year. We’re subsidizing Mexico for almost $300 billion. We shouldn’t be — why are we subsidizing these countries? If we’re going to subsidize them, let them become a state,” Trump told NBC’s Meet the Press host Kristen Welker on Sunday.
Trudeau told reporters after visiting Trump at his resort in West Palm Beach, Florida, that the meeting was “excellent.”
