Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) joined CNN on Sunday to regurgitate the now thoroughly debunked claim that the Trump 2016 campaign colluded with the Russian government.
“State of the Union” host Dana Bash pointed out that Schiff had claimed for years that he had seen irrefutable proof of Russian collusion as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, but subsequent investigations found that to be false.
“You said that there was direct evidence of the fact that Donald Trump colluded with Russia back in 2016. Special Counsel Robert Mueller said in his report, quote, ‘The investigation did not establish that members of the Trump campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government,’” Bash noted.
“Republicans argue that is proof that you used your position on the intelligence community to potentially mislead Americans, which is why you should not be on the intelligence community.”
Schiff pushed back, claiming he was kicked off the Intel Committee as political payback by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.).
“If you read the Mueller report, he makes clear in the first few pages of the report that he states no conclusion on whether Donald Trump or his campaign colluded with the Russians,” Schiff argued.
“But what he does find, and it is what we found in our investigation, that Donald Trump’s campaign manager was sharing internal campaign polling data and their strategy for key battleground states with an agent of Russian intelligence while that same unit of Russian intelligence was helping the Trump campaign, both with a hacking and a dumping operation, as well as a social media operation to elect Donald Trump. To most Americans, that is collusion.”
“Whether it’s proof beyond a reasonable doubt to a crime of conspiracy, that’s what Bob Mueller was talking about. I’ve always distinguished between the two. Let me set the record straight. This is only one of a shifting series of rationalizations and pretexts that McCarthy is using,” he added.
Keep in mind, this is the man who’d been falsely claiming for years that Trump’s collusion with Russia was “in plain sight” and that he personally had seen a “smoking gun.”
The depth of Schiff’s shameless lies is easily exposed when referring to several key pieces of information that have emerged over the years which utterly destroy the Russian collusion narrative.
Inspector General Michael Horowitz and special counsel John Durham both acknowledged that the Russian collusion hoax was started by the Hillary Clinton campaign and facilitated by a small group of key officials at the FBI, DOJ, and the State Department, as well as lawyers in Clinton’s orbit.
Former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe also declassified documents in 2020 revealing the extent of Clinton’s involvement in starting the Russia collusion narrative.
“This was a coordinated effort by Hillary Clinton Campaign officials, by executives who were working with them, lawyers who work for the campaign, all attempting to defraud the federal government,” Ratcliffe said last year, adding the same corrupt elements that peddled the Russia collusion hoax – including Schiff – also suppressed the story about Hunter Biden’s laptop leading up to the 2020 presidential election.
“This was a coordinated effort to mislead the American people, politicizing intelligence that didn’t exist,” Ratcliffe said. “Adam Schiff claiming that this was Russian disinformation and then having it peddled by Big Tech and former national security officials who all signed on in the weeks leading up to 2020, influenced the outcome of the election and I think they were successful in doing so.”
