The Hungarian government cast disapproval over the Ukrainian ruler’s alleged plan to quickly arm up with nuclear weapons for use against Russia as part of what Vladimir Zelensky dubbed his ‘victory plan‘ – a plan for continued war with Russia, including three undisclosed classified agendas.
Senior Hungarian official Balazs Orban has said that the ‘victory plan’ poses a major risk to escalation and that he will not support it, according to RT on Friday.
“The plan is ‘the quickest path to World War III,’ Balazs Orban, who serves as political director in the office of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban (no relation), told journalists on Thursday, on the sidelines of an EU meeting in Brussels,” RT said on Friday.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also rejected the plan.
“The German chancellor says Berlin won’t give Kiev long-range missiles or support its quick accession to NATO,” RT said Friday.
Poland has shown no enthusiasm for the plan either.
“There is no great enthusiasm either – as I hear – in the European Council or in NATO headquarters, because the situation on the front is difficult, there is enormous war fatigue,” Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz was quoted as saying by the TVP.info news outlet, according to RT.
Zelensky himself has denied the Ukrainian government’s nuclear desires on Thursday, contradicting statements he made earlier that day saying Ukraine must either go nuclear or join NATO. He made the remarks during a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Brussels, Belgium.
“Sometimes we create ourselves problems. Now you began to do it. So, we never spoke about that we are preparing to create a nuclear weapon or something like this,” Zelensky said according to RT.
This latter statement was in stark contrast to an earlier one the Ukrainian ruler said at the meeting.
“Speaking to Donald Trump, I told him, ‘What is the way out for us?’ Either Ukraine will have nuclear weapons, and they will serve as protection, or we need to be in some kind of alliance. We don’t know any effective alliances except NATO,” Zelensky said according to RT.
Notably, the Ukrainian ‘victory plan‘ laid out by Zelensky includes continued support for his war effort, long range heavy weapons to strike Russia with, as well as three classified points which may potentially be nuclear in nature.
