WASHINGTON, D.C. (LifeSiteNews) — Outgoing Democrat President Joe Biden once again told an anecdote supposedly illustrating that his support for homosexual “marriage” dates back to childhood, which many have concluded was most likely fabricated due to both the facts of when the incident would have occurred and Biden’s own positions over the following decades.
Earlier this week, a member of the White House press corps asked Biden, who recently dropped his reelection bid in favor of Democrats nominating his Vice President Kamala Harris, what he considers his “legacy for LGBTQ Americans.”
“Well, I’m very proud of my position. I was the first guy to come out for gay marriage [sic]… the Obama administration,” he replied.
“My dad was dropping me off to get a license to be a lifeguard in the city,” Biden said. He added that when he and his father left their car, they saw two men kissing, which Biden said he had “never seen that before.” He alleged that his father then told him that the two homosexuals “love each other.” “That’s my position,” Biden said.

A young Biden worked as a lifeguard at a public Delaware swimming pool in the early 1960s, at a time when state laws against sodomy were enforced and roughly a decade before they would be repealed, casting doubt as to whether two men would have risked being seen kissing in public.
Further, even if Biden’s father really was an outlier from his generation’s prevailing views on homosexuality, the alleged lesson did not shape his son’s actual record on related issues during the majority of his public life.
As a senator, Biden voted for the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which protected states’ right not to recognize homosexual “marriages” and defined marriage as a monogamous heterosexual union for the purposes of federal law.
“We already have a law, the Defense of Marriage Act,” then-Senator Biden said in a 2006 interview with Meet the Press. “We’ve all voted – not, where I’ve voted, and others have said, look, marriage is between a man and a woman and states must respect that. Nobody’s violated that law, there’s been no challenge to that law. Why do we need a constitutional amendment? Marriage is between a man and a woman.” Fox News added that Biden flatly answered “no” when asked if he supported homosexual “marriage” in the 2008 vice-presidential debate.
As vice president of the United States in President Barack Obama’s administration, Biden slipped ahead of Obama’s own “evolution” on the issue when he said in 2012, “I am absolutely comfortable with the fact that men marrying men, women marrying women, and heterosexual men and women marrying another are entitled to the same exact rights, all the civil rights, all the civil liberties. And quite frankly, I don’t see much of a distinction – beyond that.”
By the time he became president himself, Biden had fully jettisoned the last vestiges of his past moderation on all major issues, including marriage and sexuality.
In December 2022, he signed into law the so-called “Respect for Marriage Act” (RMA), which repealed the longstanding (but unenforced) DOMA, federally recognizes any “marriage” performed by any state, and forces every state to recognize any “marriage” of any other state “between two individuals,” including two homosexuals. The RMA effectively codifies the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges ruling, which forces all 50 states to recognize homosexual “marriage.”
Biden also fully conformed himself to the latest extremes of the LGBT agenda beyond homosexuality: reopening the military to recruits afflicted with gender dysphoria, promoting transgender ideology within the military (including “diversity” and drag events on military bases), holding events to “affirm transgender kids,” condemningstate laws against underage “transitions” as “close to sinful,” promoting underage “transitions” (potentially at taxpayer expense) as a “best practice,” and trying to force federally funded schools to let males into female athletic competitions and restrooms.
Biden’s rewrite of his “evolution” on the issue coincides with Republicans “evolving” in the opposite direction, removing from their party platform language declaring that “Traditional marriage and family, based on marriage between one man and one woman, is the foundation for a free society” and calling for that understanding to be reflected in law, including with the “reversal” of Obergefell.
