Democrat Rep. Deborah Dingell (Mich.) short-circuited on CNN Wednesday when asked whether Joe Biden was the “strongest” person to be the party’s presidential candidate, claiming such questions are akin to asking, “Do you beat your wife?”
CNN anchor Jessica Dean asked Dingell, “I do just wanna ask you again if you think President Biden is the strongest person at the top of the ticket to win Michigan in the fall?”
Dingell replied, “He-he’s the candidate right now. And these are ‘do you beat your wife’ kind of questions!”

Though Dingell did not elaborate on that statement, she did launch into a nonsensical rant claiming her warning fellow Democrats in 2016 that Hillary Clinton wasn’t a good candidate somehow means they need to support Biden, another weak candidate, this time around.
“You know, who is this [inaudible]? I-I–everybody said ‘Hillary C-Clinton is the strongest candidate, she’s gonna win’ and I told you all in 2015-2016 Donald Trump was gonna win. I loved Hillary, but she wasn’t the strongest candidate,” she said.
“What we gotta go is go out and talk the issues. And we gotta make sure we talk about what Joe Biden’s accomplished, what the vision, what Democrats stand for, that-what, I mean…” she stammered.
Yikes.
This comes a day after Congressional Democrats huddled together for an emergency meeting at the DNC headquarters in Washington to discuss Biden’s future as the party’s nominee.
The meeting, which Democrats say “felt like a funeral” and included “tears”, ended in a deadlock but leaned more toward Democrats beginning to fall in line behind Biden.
But prominent Democrat supporters and donors, including actors George Clooney and Rob Reiner, the harpies of The View, the New York Times editorial board, and former Obama adviser David Axelrod have all called on Biden to step down.
