Vice President J.D. Vance argued that Joe Biden’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) policies are correlated with the FAA’s shortage of air traffic controllers.
Vance on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures” clarified President Trump’s earlier remarks about DEI policies being tied to the DC plane crash that left 67 dead last week.
“This is not saying that the person at the controls was a DEI hire, but let’s just say — first of all, we should investigate everything — but let’s just say the person at the controls didn’t have enough staffing around him or her because we’re turning people away because of DEI reasons,” Vance told host Maria Bartiromo on Sunday.

Vance pointed out that the air traffic controller on duty at Ronald Reagan airport may not have been a “DEI hire,” but the Biden administration’s diversity culture has led to a shortage of ATC staff.
“There is a very direct connection between the policies of the last administration and short-staffed air traffic controllers. That has to stop,” he said.
“The president made very clear that he wasn’t blaming anybody, but he was being very explicit about the fact that DEI policies have led our air traffic controllers to be short-staffed. That is a scandal. Thankfully, it’s a scandal the president has stopped,” Vance added.
In a press conference Thursday, Trump called out the Biden administration for using DEI to lower the standards of the FAA.

In fact, the FAA is fighting a class action lawsuit alleging it denied 1,000 people air traffic controller jobs based on diversity hiring targets.
At the time of the mid-air collision between the black hawk helicopter and a passenger jet in D.C., air traffic control staffing levels were reportedly “not normal.”
